So, what are some tips to help keep your marriage or relationship healthy and prevent breakups? Hi, Cody Butler here, marriage coach and founder of Better Marriage. Today, I want to talk to you about some routines that you can build into your relationships to help you keep them healthy and prevent those breakups down the road.

The first tip is to have regular getaways.

Try to do this at least every three months, aiming for four times a year. It can be a day trip or an extended day trip somewhere. It can also be a weekend getaway, or if possible, take three or four nights, or even a week, every three months. By doing this, you can really help keep the relationship fresh. Familiarity breeds contempt, and if you’re in the same environment all the time – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year – it’s really hard to get a fresh perspective and see your partner in a different light. Taking a trip to the beach, the mountains, or anywhere in your area for a day or two, or even longer, helps create a new environment and perception of your partner. It keeps the relationship from becoming monotonous, so you’re not looking at your partner every day in the same way and in the same environment, which ultimately leads to familiarity and contempt.

The second tip is to keep doing what you did.

The strategy to keep the relationship fresh and healthy is to keep doing what you did in the beginning of the relationship. Now, all too often, we come together as a couple through shared interests, through common ground, and by doing things together. That’s what makes us fall in love. However, after some time passes, we tend to forget what initially made us fall in love and start focusing on other things. We stop doing the things that brought us together in the first place. It’s not difficult to understand that if we stop doing the things that made us fall in love, we’ll probably fall out of love.

So, take the time to figure out what it was that made you fall in love with each other and make a genuine effort to keep doing those things. Keep them in your life. This will help maintain the glue that keeps the relationship fresh and healthy, and it will serve as a foundation for preventing breakups in the future.

The Final tip is keep relationships fresh and healthy

Now, my final tip to keep relationships fresh and healthy is to seek communication skills. Seek education on communication because it is the key to successful relationships. Effective communication is critical, and couples with great communication skills tend to succeed, while those with poor or no communication skills often struggle. Unfortunately, communication skills are not typically taught in schools, and most people lack them. Therefore, make a real effort to seek out communication education. When we can talk to each other effectively and efficiently, it avoids conflict, confusion, and helps keep the relationship healthy.

If you’re interested, we have a great free workshop on communication available. Check out the description for more information and sign up for our workshop, where we’ll teach you how to improve communication, have a healthier relationship, and reduce conflicts.

That’s all from me. Bless you all, and we’ll talk to you very soon.
